This is a family restaurant, owned and operated by Vasilios Hristopoulos and his wife*) It is their only restaurant*) His grandfather came to the United States from Greece, directly to Maryland in 1920*) Vasilios has been eating and cooking Greek food his entire life*)
They have the fare common to most Greek restaurants. The food is well prepared, served pleasantly, and is a good value. Our favorite meals are the Chicken Souvlaki Dinner ($10*), and the Gyro Dinner ($10*) When I am not hungry I order the Village Salad which has all the vegetables I like ($7-large and $5-small*) They offer Greek beer and Greek wines by the glass or bottle. I specifically asked Vasilios for suggestions about what to eat. After a moment, he suggested ordering the specialties of the day. Each day he makes one or two different recipes. While all of his offerings are good, I personally find that the specialties are well prepared and always worth the reasonable cost.
There are a variety of appetizers ranging from Kalamarakia Tiganita (Fried Calamari) to Melitsanosalata (Greek caviar) to Revithosalata (Hummus) There is also a platter with a variety of tastes. There is a Soup of the Day which is one of the daily specials. The salads are very good, and may have chicken or beef added to them if desired. The dinner platters (also available as sandwiches) are served with a Greek salad with a choice or rice or fries. The entrees include lamb, pork, and shrimp as well as chicken and lamb shisk-kebab. In addition to all of this, there are also Kids Meals ($5*) Finally, the desserts, which are not one of my major interests, include baklava, kataifi, and other sweets as well as rice pudding. All are good if you are a dessert person.
The restaurant is nicely decorated with the sparse, clean lines, pastel colors, and white paint characteristic of Greece. There is always a reasonable size crowd. In the early hours of the evening there are many family groups. During the warmer months (April through October) you can sit outside (there are 7 tables with awnings) and talk to your fellow diners.
Vasilios considers himself and his family to be part of the local population, and enjoys serving his neighbors. The restaurant is an easy walking distance from any place in the Kentlands. My wife and I, as well as our neighbors, regularly walk there for a light meal at the end of the day.
